#3 MARY-FRANCES MONROE

Mary-Frances Monroe is a key returnee this season with the Mutiny. Last summer, Mary-Frances was called up by the Boston Breakers of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). The 2009 WPSL East 2nd Team selection was competing with Boston Aztec - the reserve squad for the Breakers - earlier in the summer. A former member of the WUSA’s Boston Breakers and the 2008 WPSL East Player of the Year for the Mutiny, Monroe made her WPS debut in the club’s 1-0 win over the Washington Freedom on Weds., June 24th.

Entering her fifth season wearing New England colors, Mary-Frances currently serves as the Head Women’s Soccer Coach at the University at Albany, where she completed her fourth season last fall while being named the America East Conference Co-Coach Of The Year. In 2008 - her last season with the Mutiny - Monroe was a 1st Team All-WPSL selection, netting an incredible 16 goals and 11 assists in 12 matches played.

In 2007, she started in all 12 regular season games & scored six goals and an assist. Monroe has had success at every level of her playing career; including her 2004 season with the Mutiny when she scored 11 goals and six assists and was selected to the All-WPSL Second Team. After starting in 12 of 16 matches as a 2nd Round draft choice of the WUSA Philadelphia Charge in 2002, Mary-Frances was claimed off waivers by coach Pia Sundhage and the Boston Breakers after the first match of the 2003 season.

The four-time NSCAA All American at UConn & UCLA went on to start 8 of 12 matches for the WUSA regular season champions, scoring a goal and 3 assists while starting in the Founder’s Cup Semifinal. The 3-time Hermann Trophy & M.A.C. Award candidate spent time with the U-21 & senior U.S. National Team sides in 2000-01. The Soccer America Freshman of the Year at UConn in 1998, Monroe was a three-time All-Big East First Team selection before transferring to UCLA her senior season.
