#3 MARY-FRANCES MONROE

A major reason for the success of the Mutiny last season can be attributed to the team re-acquiring Mary-Frances Monroe. “MF” provided much needed veteran leadership as she co-captained the squad to an undefeated regular season. Mary-Frances started all 12 games for the Mutiny last season scoring 6 goals and assisting on 1. She is a key returnee this season for the Mutiny, and has had success at every level of her playing career; including her 2004 season with the Mutiny when she scored 11 goals and six assists and was selected to the All-WPSL Second Team. After starting in 12 of 16 matches professionally as a second-round draft choice of the Philadelphia Charge in 2002, Mary-Frances signed with the Boston Breakers after the first match of the 2003 season. The four-time NSCAA All American at UConn & UCLA went on to start 8 of 12 matches for the WUSA regular season champions, scoring a goal and 3 assists while starting in the Founder’s Cup Semifinal. M-F also played professionally for KIF Obrero of the Swedish league. The 3-time Hermann Trophy & M.A.C. Award candidate, given to the top collegiate player in the country, spent time with the U-21 & senior U.S. National Team sides in 2000-01, debuting on 10/13/00 vs. Australia for the senior team while winning the Nordic Cup with the U-21 team the same year. The Soccer America Freshman of the Year at UConn in 1998, Monroe was a three-time All-Big East First Team selection before transferring to UCLA her senior season. Mary-Frances is the head coach at the University of Albany women’s soccer team.
