READING, MA (07/06/10) - In mid-week soccer action, the Boston Aztec U-23 (5-1-1 WPSL Northeast) defeated the New England Mutiny (3-3-3 WPSL Northeast) in a Women's Premier Soccer League match at Reading Memorial High School.

The Aztecs got goals from Amy Caldwell, Jackie Bachteler and Eliza Marshal and seven saves from Aubree Southwick in the win.

The Aztecs got on the scoreboard first in the 26th minute when Tori McCombs acrobatically deflected a bouncing ball past her defender to the on-rushing Caldwell, who collected the ball and slotted it past Mutiny goalkeeper Julie Arroyo.

The Mutiny nearly equalized two minutes later when former Boston Breaker Mary-Frances Monroe struck a dipping shot that hit the far post and was cleared away by the Aztec defense. In the 30th minute, Jess Luscinski broke in one-on-one with Arroyo. The Mutiny goalkeeper made the save, keeping the score at 1-0.

Caldwell nearly got her second goal of the game in the 51st minute on a breakaway, but her shot went wide of the near post. In the 61st minute, the Aztec were able to net their second goal of the game.

The Aztecs were awarded a free kick 25 yards from goal. Katherine Donnelly took the free kick and bent the ball around the wall to the on-running Bachteler, who directed the ball past Mutiny goalkeeper Jackie Fede.

In the 83rd minute as the Mutiny pushed players forward, Erin Clark forced Southwick into a diving save. Monroe had two chances to put the rebound away but Southwick was able to recover and make the saves for the Aztecs. The Aztecs put the game out of reach in the 84th minute when Marshall collected a loose ball at the top of the box and bent it into the top corner of the net.
